Gene Nelson Autographed 1982 Topps Traded #80T Seattle Mariners Card

Featuring Gene Nelson after his move from New York to Seattle, this Gene Nelson autographed 1982 Topps Traded #80T Seattle Mariners card provides an early-career update of the young right-handed pitcher. The Topps Traded release updated Nelson from the New York Yankees appearance found on his regular 1982 Topps #373 card to his new club, the Seattle Mariners.

Nelson made his Major League debut with the Yankees in 1981 at age 20, appearing in eight games with seven starts. He was traded to Seattle following the season as part of the deal that sent pitcher Shane Rawley to New York, giving Nelson an opportunity to continue his development in the Mariners rotation.

During the 1982 season with Seattle, Nelson appeared in 22 games and made 17 starts. He worked 105 innings while still only 21 years old, making the Topps Traded card a fitting snapshot of the starting-pitcher phase of his career.

Nelson later pitched for the Chicago White Sox before joining the Oakland Athletics in 1987, where he developed into a highly effective reliever. He was part of three consecutive American League pennant-winning teams from 1988 through 1990 and enjoyed his finest season in 1989, going 9-6 with a 1.57 ERA in 65 appearances as Oakland swept San Francisco to win the World Series.

Nelson ultimately pitched 13 Major League seasons with the Yankees, Mariners, White Sox and Athletics, appearing in more than 600 games as both a starter and reliever. As a Topps Traded issue documenting his move from New York to Seattle, the 1982 Topps Traded #80T is an appealing addition for Mariners collectors, Gene Nelson fans, 1982 Topps Traded collectors or collectors assembling comprehensive autographed player runs.
