Featuring Ed Ott with the California Angels, this Ed Ott autographed 1982 Donruss #192 California Angels card represents the hard-nosed catcher during the final season of his Major League career. Ott spent the majority of his career with the Pittsburgh Pirates before concluding his playing days in California.
Ott reached the Major Leagues with the Pittsburgh Pirates in 1974 and developed into the club's primary catcher during the latter half of the decade. A left-handed hitter, he became a regular behind the plate for Pittsburgh and appeared in more than 100 games in three consecutive seasons from 1977 through 1979.
His most memorable season came in 1979, when Ott batted .273 with 14 doubles, seven home runs and a career-high 51 RBI. He helped Pittsburgh win the National League East and then contributed throughout the postseason as the Pirates captured the World Series championship.
Ott was particularly productive in the 1979 World Series against the Baltimore Orioles, batting .333 with seven hits and three RBI during the seven-game series. Pittsburgh rallied from a three-games-to-one deficit to capture the franchise's fifth World Series championship.
Following the 1980 season, Ott was traded to the California Angels, where he played his final Major League season in 1981. He finished his eight-season career with 465 hits and a .259 batting average. The 1982 Donruss #192 is a late-career Angels issue and an appealing addition for Ed Ott fans, Angels and Pirates collectors, 1979 World Series championship collections, early Donruss collectors or collectors assembling comprehensive autographed player runs.
