Add an early-career signed card of longtime Philadelphia Phillies left-hander Don Carman with this Don Carman autographed 1985 Fleer Update #U-20 Philadelphia Phillies card. The card is part of Fleers 1985 Update release and is cataloged by many collectors as an XRC, predating Carmans regular 1986 Fleer rookie card.
Carman had appeared briefly for Philadelphia in 1983 and 1984 before emerging as one of the Phillies most effective pitchers in 1985. Working exclusively out of the bullpen, the left-hander appeared in 71 games and compiled a 9-4 record with a 2.08 ERA and seven saves. He allowed only 52 hits in 86.1 innings while striking out 87, holding opposing hitters to a .178 batting average.
Carman transitioned into a starting role the following season and became a regular member of the Phillies rotation. He won 10 games in 1986 and enjoyed his best season as a starter in 1987, when he went 13-11 with 125 strikeouts over 211 innings. He spent eight of his ten Major League seasons with Philadelphia before later pitching for the Cincinnati Reds and Texas Rangers.
