Featuring Del Unser with the Montreal Expos, this Del Unser autographed 1978 Topps #348 Montreal Expos card showcases the versatile outfielder and first baseman during his second season with Montreal.
Unser made his Major League debut with the Washington Senators in 1968 and quickly established himself as a regular outfielder. After four seasons in Washington, he played for the Cleveland Indians and Philadelphia Phillies before joining the New York Mets for the 1975 and 1976 seasons.
Unser was traded to the Montreal Expos prior to the 1977 season and responded with one of the best offensive years of his career. He batted .273 with 123 hits, 21 doubles, 12 home runs and 44 RBI while appearing in 140 games. The 12 home runs represented a career high.
After spending two seasons in Montreal, Unser returned to Philadelphia for the 1979 season and became a valuable left-handed bat off the bench. That year he established a Major League record by hitting pinch-hit home runs in three consecutive at-bats. Unser remained an important reserve for the Phillies in 1980 as Philadelphia captured the first World Series championship in franchise history.
Unser played 15 Major League seasons, collecting more than 1,300 hits while appearing for the Senators, Indians, Phillies, Mets and Expos. The 1978 Topps #348 is an appealing addition for Montreal Expos collectors, Del Unser fans, vintage Topps collections, Philadelphia Phillies championship collections or collectors assembling comprehensive autographed player runs.
