Dave Martinez Autographed 1989 Bowman #370 Montreal Expos Card

Featuring Dave Martinez in a Chicago Cubs uniform but issued during his first full season with Montreal, this Dave Martinez autographed 1989 Bowman #370 Montreal Expos card is an interesting transitional issue from early in his Major League career. The 1989 Bowman set marked the brands return to baseball cards after more than three decades and used a distinctive oversized format reminiscent of vintage Bowman releases.

Martinez began his Major League career with the Chicago Cubs, who selected him in the third round of the 1983 MLB Draft. He established himself as a regular in 1987 before being traded to the Montreal Expos in July 1988. Because the Bowman card continued to picture him in his Cubs uniform, it provides a snapshot of the transition between the first two organizations of his career.

In 1989, his first full season with Montreal, Martinez appeared in 144 games and batted .274 with 131 hits, 21 doubles, 41 RBI and 11 stolen bases. His combination of contact hitting, speed and defensive versatility helped make him a regular part of the Expos outfield.

Martinez remained with Montreal through the 1991 season and enjoyed one of his strongest years with the club in 1990, batting .279 with 147 hits, 11 home runs, 60 RBI and 17 stolen bases. His Expos years became an important early chapter in a Major League career that ultimately spanned 16 seasons.

Martinez finished his playing career with 1,599 hits, 91 home runs, 580 RBI, 183 stolen bases and a .276 batting average. He later served as bench coach for the Chicago Cubs historic 2016 World Series championship and managed the Washington Nationals to the 2019 World Series championship. With its transitional Cubs imagery, Expos designation and Bowmans distinctive 1989 comeback design, the 1989 Bowman #370 is an appealing addition for Expos collectors, Dave Martinez fans, Bowman collectors or collectors assembling comprehensive autographed player runs.
