Hammonds career would eventually become one of baseballs more interesting comeback stories. After spending several seasons away from the majors, he returned with the Atlanta Braves in 2002 and produced a remarkable 0.95 ERA in 63 relief appearances. He followed that season with stops for the New York Yankees, Oakland Athletics, San Diego Padres and Cincinnati Reds, ultimately completing a 14-season Major League career with 441 appearances and a 4.14 ERA.
