The 1994 Fleer Extra Bases #260 Chris Hammond features the left-handed pitcher with the Florida Marlins on one of the most distinctive baseball card releases of the mid-1990s. Personally autographed by Hammond, this unusual issue combines his place on the early Marlins pitching staff with the memorable oversized format that made Fleer Extra Bases stand apart from virtually every mainstream set of its era.

Introduced in 1994, Fleer Extra Bases was built around a dramatically different concept: tall, oversized cards measuring approximately 2 1/2 by 4 11/16 inches. The elongated format provided additional space for photography and immediately distinguished the cards from the standard 2 1/2-by-3 1/2-inch dimensions familiar to collectors. The unconventional size also makes signed Extra Bases cards especially eye-catching when displayed alongside standard issues.

Hammond's #260 was issued during the second season of Florida Marlins baseball. He had joined the expansion franchise after being selected in the 1992 MLB Expansion Draft, bringing Major League experience from the Cincinnati Reds organization to Florida's newly constructed pitching staff.

Hammond became one of the most successful starters on that first Marlins club. During Florida's inaugural 1993 season, he made 32 starts and posted a 15-12 record. His 15 victories established his Major League career high and led the inaugural Marlins in wins.

Before becoming an original Marlin, Hammond was selected by the Cincinnati Reds in the sixth round of the 1986 MLB Draft out of the University of Alabama. He worked his way through Cincinnati's minor league system before making his Major League debut on July 16, 1990.

Hammond's career later became notable for one of the more impressive veteran pitching comebacks of the era. After spending three consecutive seasons outside the Major Leagues from 1999 through 2001, he returned with the Atlanta Braves in 2002 at age 36.

Working primarily from the bullpen, Hammond produced a remarkable 7-2 record with a 0.95 ERA in 63 appearances. He allowed only seven earned runs over 76 innings, a performance that revived his Major League career and led to additional seasons with the Yankees, Athletics and Padres.

Hammond ultimately pitched parts of 14 Major League seasons for seven organizations. The combination of Hammond's early Florida Marlins connection, personal autograph and the unusually tall Extra Bases format makes this #260 a particularly distinctive piece within a comprehensive signed-card collection.
