This card comes from the early stages of Fields professional career in the Detroit Tigers organization. The 1982 Birmingham Barons were Detroit's Double-A affiliate in the Southern League, playing their home games at historic Rickwood Field. The roster included a surprising number of future Major Leaguers, including Fields, Bob Melvin, Brbaro Garbey, Paul Gibson, Dave Gumpert, Randy O'Neal and Nelson Simmons.

Fields began the 1982 season with the Class A Macon Peaches, where he enjoyed an outstanding offensive season, batting .337 with 105 hits, six home runs, 38 RBI and 28 stolen bases in 80 games. He advanced to Birmingham and appeared in 43 games at the Double-A level, making this TCMA issue a great snapshot of Fields as a young prospect climbing through Detroit's farm system.
